Description
The My WebLinks Plus module is a system extension that allows you to create multiple specialized web link modules. These modules can be delegated to Module Administrators through the existing portal functionality. It doesn't look like much but it's actually fairly powerful for profiling content to your users. Below is a list of features that are part of this module:
- allows you to set common links that end-users may choose to visit.
- allows you to set portal role-specific links that people may choose to visit.
- new links will automatically be shown and end-users will have to customize their module to remove them, if they choose to.
- allows end-users to add their own Weblinks if the module administrator chooses this option.
- allows the module administrator to set links so they cannot be removed (mandatory links).
- allows the module administrator set an email address for suggested links (shows up on the users Module Edit page).
- you can make multiple copies of this module and call them whatever you want as it is a proper new Module type called "WebLinks Plus".
Compatibility
This system extension requires Blackboard Community System because it is a portal module.
It works with all versions of Learning System with Community System 6.2.2 and above.
Installation
Install this system extension as a Building Block in the Administrator Control Panel. This system extension installs a portal module that is not available by default. This can be changed through the "Properties" button in the Manage Modules area of Community System.
It is suggested that you enter some initial information for this module before it is be used to it's fullest. You will have to set some options and create a few WebLinks for the module to display anything useful. You'll have to edit the module that this system extension has created in order to customize it for your institution. Module confiuration is within the "System Admin" tab. Select "Manage Modules" and find the My WebLinks Plus module. Once you find it, click on the "Contents" button and you can start to configure your new module.
You can also make copies of this module and call them anything that you like. To add a new module of type "WebLinks Plus", go to the "System Admin" tab, select "Manage Modules". Click on the Add: Module button on the top tool bar. On the next screen, fill in the appropriate information but when you choose the "Module Type" in the drop-down box, select "WebLinks Plus". Don't forget, you can set module administrators at the bottom of that page so that they can be delegated to maintain the configuration and WebLinks that are contained in this module. This process will create a fully independent new copy of this module for use.
Modules can be added or removed individually. You may want to remove the one called "My WebLinks Plus" and create your own with a more appropriate name for your site. However, if you remove the system extension, you will remove all of the modules of that type. Be careful when you remove the system extension!

Notes
This system extension does not use the same information as the My Bookmarks module and cannot replace it.
Be warned again, if you remove the system extension, you will remove all of the modules of that type. Be careful when you remove the system extension!
